Autumn may be in full swing, but it’s already Winter in the land of EastEnders.

Last Christmas (sorry if that’s now stuck in your head all day), Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) had her life changed forever when she stabbed Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) in the back of the Queen Vic pub.

Witnessing the murder ordeal unfold were the remaining members of The Six – Denise (Diane Parish), Sharon (Letitia Dean), Stacey (Lacey Turner), Kathy (Gillian Taylforth) and Suki (Balvinder Sopal).

The plot came to somewhat of a conclusion a few weeks ago, during Dean Wicks’ (Matt Di Angelo) trial.

These new and exciting snaps of Walford covered in snow tell us that the festive season really isn’t that far away. The huge Christmas tree is up in the Square, nutcrackers are standing proud either side of the entrance to the pub, and lights are also displayed throughout the street.

As for what this year’s Christmas storyline will entail, you’ll just have to wait and see but expect drama aplenty given that the festive season is just months before EastEnders’ 40th anniversary.

EastEnders has marked its 40th year on air with a number of guest returns, including that of Chrissie Watts (Tracy-Ann Oberman), paying tribute to the serial’s past.

The 40th anniversary itself, which will air in February, will also include a soap first – the power of deciding the outcome of one storyline will be bestowed onto the audience.

While details are scarce at the moment, we do know that the interactive element will involve your opinion on the desired outcome of a love story – but who?

The outcome will play out during a live episode as those on and off-screen adapt to the result of the public vote.

Teasing the upcoming events, executive producer Chris Clenshaw said: ‘The 40th anniversary is a milestone event for EastEnders, and we have been planning this week for a long time to ensure that it’s a week full of drama and surprises.’

‘This time, as well as going live, we are adding an extra twist and for the very first time in the history of the show and as a gift to the viewers, we are giving the audience the power to have their say in choosing the outcome of one of our storylines.

‘Whilst we’re still keeping the finite details of the 40th close to our chest, I can promise that it will be an unmissable week full of shocking twists that will change Albert Square, and the lives of those who live in it, forever.’
