Emmerdale villain Tom King slammed over Belle abuse – but fans spot way his lie could be exposed

Tom was questioned over his recent attack this Wednesday in Emmerdale and his behaviour triggered backlash on social media. However, there is still one way for him to be exposed.

Comeuppance is near for Tom King but before he can face the music, the villain denies he has ever abused Belle Dingle, throwing the blame back to her.

After he was brutally attacked by his estranged wife, whom he intimidated, abused and controlled for the entirety of their relationship and marriage, the vile vet portrayed by James Chase woke up from his coma and blackmailed her into coming to visit him in hospital.

This prompted the wedding planner played by Eden Taylor-Draper to show him she would no longer take part in any of his mind games and the police were told about the abuse she had endured at his hands.

During this Wednesday’s trip to Emmerdale (October 2, 2024), Tom was greeted out of his hospital room by the police as two detectives placed him under arrest before escorting him to the nearest police station.

While there, and as he answered their questions, Tom revealed he had lied about his attack, stating that he’d been mugged, to protect Belle, whom he accused of being “angry” and abusive – which is, as viewers know, far from the truth.

Fans of the Yorkshire-based programme raged on social media, more particularly Twitter, now X, while Tom insisted he’d been a victim of Belle’s unstable temper and mental health issues. However, one detail could soon expose him and lead, hopefully, to his comeuppance.

As the episode drew to a close and Tom consulted his solicitor for support, he told the new character that he had deleted the “evidence” Belle had abused him from his tablet, but he still had footage of her which could corroborate her claim.

Tom made it clear his only hope would be to retrieve the tablet and the device was being shown in Carl Holliday’s hands as the schoolboy played a video game while his parents, Nicola and Jimmy King, paid no attention.

In scenes due to air on ITV, as teased by next week’s spoilers, Tom tries to retrieve the tablet, which eventually lands on Isaac Dingle’s lap. After getting to the tablet, Tom will decide to destroy the device to cover his tracks, completely unaware that Carl is spying on him.

Soap fans will know that Tom will have no redemption arc ahead of his exit. In late July, 2024, it was reported that James Chase, who has portrayed Tom since 2023, had quit the show and his on-screen departure would include dramatic scenes.

“It’s the right time to leave,” an insider told The Sun. “James has loved his time on the show playing such a powerful story but the truth is that characters like Tom have a shelf life for a reason. There’s no long-term redemption for Tom coming – he has to leave one way or the other. And either way it will be dramatic. James is rightly proud of the part he’s played in raising awareness of the issue with the story but it’s time to go and spread his wings.” How will he bow out and could he be killed off?
