Emmerdale star Mark Charnock reveals more on Marlon and Gus fight scene
"It's an incredibly macho moment from Marlon!"

Emmerdale star Mark Charnock has opened up about his character Marlon Dingle’s upcoming fight scene with Gus Malcolms.
The pair have been at loggerheads since Gus reported his ex-wife Rhona for kidnapping baby Ivy. In scenes set to air next week, Gus suggests a compromise over Ivy’s future — ahead of Rhona’s impending court case.
Things soon turn sour though, with Gus being knocked to the floor during a scuffle with Marlon.
Speaking to emmerdalesnews and other media, Charnock explained how the fight began. “It’s an incredibly macho moment from Marlon!” he said.
“Basically, there’s a conversation outside of the house, and it’s sort of a bit silly, really. We sort of stand up to each other and there’s no one person out-strengthening the other. It’s just a mess of a scuffle between two people who are not naturally like that.”
The actor went on to reveal that the scene could significantly impact Rhona and Marlon’s case, saying: “There’s this middle-aged scuffle and one of the middle-aged combatants falls, it’s sort of an accident, but what it gives Gus is leverage to build.
“It gives him something else that he can hang his case onto — ‘Look, I was assaulted’. I think Marlon and Rhona both immediately know that, despite what it actually was, how it looks could be quite significant further down the line.”
“It definitely could make things worse for their case, because all it takes is really… ‘And her husband hit me, look! They’re not rational people!’ All of that,” he added.
Charnock also explained how much he’s enjoyed being a part of Rhona’s ongoing baby storyline, saying: “Well it’s been fantastic. It’s a great story to play out, because it’s so different to anything else I’ve seen or done.
“It’s been brilliant, working with the group of actors that we’ve been isolated with over this story. It’s really good because you can see somebody doing some brilliant work and it ups your game all the time.”
He concluded: “It’s been really satisfying creatively. It’s been intense but satisfyingly intense. You go home feeling like you’ve done a good day on set.”
