Recently in Emmerdale, Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) snuck into John’s (Oliver Farnworth) van and found some dog tags from the army.
She was interrupted by her very angry brother, and was still curious as to why he was keeping hold of something that had Aidan Moore written on it.
It turns out John’s actually developed a backbone in the small period of time he’s been in the village.
Feeling bad, he was sat with Vic in tonight’s episode and decided to reveal what the tags actually mean to him.
John said that he worked with Aidan when they were in the army together. The newcomer was close with his colleague, and said when they came across a young boy away from the barracks, they decided to play a game of football with him.
Seconds later though, a bomb went off. The boy was fine but Aidan had sustained severe injuries.
John, who worked as a medic while in the army, said to Vic that he did his best to save Aidan but nothing could be done. He held his hand and watched as Aidan died.
John was tearful as he explained this to Vic – it was clear Aidan meant an awful lot to him.
Vic’s brother arrived earlier this year and ever since, he has shown little to no interest in getting to know their Sugden family tree.
This scene was the first glimpse of a different side to John, so does this mean he’s prepared to build a relationship with Victoria now?
