Emmerdale exit ‘confirmed’ for Rhona as she makes shock decision in court case

EXCLUSIVE: Rhona Goskirk is due in court for kidnapping Ivy and learns the easier option is to plead guilty to ensure she won't land a harsh sentence – but she has other ideas

Emmerdale’s Rhona Goskirk makes a drastic decision regarding her court case.

Rhona, played by Zoe Henry, is set to stand trial for kidnapping Ivy next week. She was informed that by pleading guilty, she would receive a lesser sentence.

But as the day approaches, Rhona realises that she can’t plead guilty when she knows she isn’t a criminal. Touching upon Rhona’s decision, Zoe exclusively told Daily Star and other press: “Bottom line is that is her daughter and she doesn’t feel like she’s done anything wrong.”

“She just knows she can’t stand up there and brand herself a criminal when she doesn’t feel like one.” Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) is supportive of Rhona as her court case arrives, but is stunned when she reveals her plans to plead not guilty.

Zoe added: “It’s a shock for Marlon and Mary but she’s absolutely resolute that it’s the right thing to do.” With Rhona intending to plead guilty, her sentence will likely be harsher and could even result in prison time.

Mark opened up about how Marlon feels when he’s made aware of his wife’s plans. The actor said: “His initial reaction is fear because by pleading not guilty she could extend her sentence by a long way.

“He tries very hard to gather around Rhona’s strong sense of principles and he slowly starts to come around to that. But the moment she says it Marlon and Mary question whether she knows what this means if she loses.”

Next week Marlon’s daughter April (Amelia Flanagan) makes her way to Gus’s (Alan McKenna) house to beg him to drop the charges against Rhona. But in doing so, April accidentally lets slip that Rhona intends to plead not guilty.

Later, Rhona is stunned when Gus offers her a compromise of changing both of their statements and working towards a guilty verdict. She is even more shocked when he suggests giving Rhona access to Ivy.

Zoe admitted that while Rhona doesn’t believe Gus is being truthful, she welcomes the offer. And Marlon isn’t convinced either. Mark explained: “Marlon’s only reaction to it is complete distrust. He doesn’t buy it at all.”
