ITV Emmerdale killer Ella Forster leaves the Dales as she’s arrested after brutal attack

Ella left the GP surgery cuffed and escorted by police officers during this Thursday’s Emmerdale after she snapped and brutally attacked Wendy Posner. But is her exit permanent?

Huddled into the back of a police car, Ella Forster appeared to wave one last goodbye to Emmerdale this Thursday, but have ITV viewers really seen the last of her?

The newcomer portrayed by former Coronation Street star Paula Lane has settled into the eponymous village with great difficulty after it was revealed she’d murdered her childhood best friend Joanne when she was an 11-year-old child.

Following her release from prison, Ella, then known under her birth name Ruth, uprooted her life and changed her identity to finally put the past behind her. But in shocking scenes aired this Thursday, August 22, her trauma caught up with her as a member of Joanne’s family rocked up Emmerdale.

The day wasn’t off to a great start for Ella as she dreaded her 30th birthday, which her pals Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley), Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) and Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) were all determined to celebrate.

Ella’s struggles reached another level when she found out that a before-and-after montage featuring a picture from her childhood had been posted on social media by Amelia Spencer (Daisy Campbell) and she was horrified to learn Mandy had been the one to send the teen the childhood snap.

After a first outburst, Ella was comforted by Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson), who had finally put his own grievances with her to rest, and the pair enjoyed some downtime at The Woolpack, where Rhona, Mandy and Manpreet had organised a birthday bash, which included a karaoke machine.

However, a mystery person lurked in the shadows, revealing themselves as one of Joanne’s relatives in the Woolie, pushing Ella over the edge later on in a brutal confrontation, witnessed by Wendy Posner (Susan Cookson). The concerned nurse stepped in and took care of Ella in the aftermath, bringing her to the local GP surgery nearby. Unfortunately, a triggered Ella was too overwhelmed to understand Wendy’s words of support.

Haunted by a guilty conscience and believing she was undeserving of a fresh and peaceful start, Ella self-sabotaged and brushed Wendy off with a vicious punch to the face and intimidated her into calling the police to head back to prison, her “home.” In a heartbreaking twist, just as Manpreet and Liam begged for the police to let her go, Ella was thrown into a police car and was seen leaving the village behind, mere weeks after her first exit from the soap.

Over on X, otherwise known as Twitter, Ella’s unexpected departure received a multitude of reactions: “C’mon, Ella, you’re in a village of psychos and murderers. You’ll be fine there”, one penned. Another added: “I’m thinking Ella actually WANTS to go to prison to get away from this guy following her”, while a shocked third chimed in: “Ella has really lost it!”

But fans can rest assured as it’s unlikely Ella will be gone for too long. Taking to social media in late July, 2024, actress Paula Lane, who has portrayed the child killer since her debut last year, confirmed she’d renewed her contract on the Yorkshire-based programme, sharing a selfie while in character with cuts and bruises on her face.

“Oh, Ella… whatever next?! I can confirm a new contract signed today for moi. Very happy to be calling Emmerdale my second home for the next chapter”, she’d captioned. But could she still spend time behind bars?
