Emmerdale appeared to confirm a looming exit for a long-running character on the ITV soap, nearly 15 years after they debuted - with the scenes possibly airing next month

Emmerdale appeared to confirm a looming exit for a long-running character on the ITV soap

Emmerdale’s latest episode revealed an exit twist for a character who has been on the ITV show for almost 15 years.

After recent scenes revealed a departure could be very likely, while not confirmed, the latest visit to the village saw some big news dropped on one family. The news teased that one long-serving character would be leaving the village in just a few weeks time.

Scenes to air next month will possibly see the character in question depart the show judging by spoilers and recent events involving them. It could mean the actress playing her leaving the show for good too, after more than a decade in the role.

Angelia King is awaiting sentencing after causing the death of Heath Hope in January. Angel, aged 14, has been told she will likely have to leave her family and serve her time in a facility.

Nicola and Jimmy King, Angel’s parents, were devastated when they found out she would likely receive a custodial sentence. While the sentence is not known, they discovered she could spend years away from the village.

Given the crime and the fact a custodial sentence has been suggested, it’s safe to assume Angel is leaving the village for a while. Nicola found out during Wednesday’s episode that a date had been set for the sentencing, where Angel will learn her fate and likely be taken away immediately if not soon after.

Nicola told Jimmy the hearing was on March 13, which is around three to four weeks away. If Angel does have to be taken way on this date, it means her exit from the village has already been filmed, as filming is around six weeks minimum before transmission.

If this does mean an exit for the character, it means her departure and the departure of actress Rebecca Bakes, who has played Angelica since 2009, has already been filmed. It’s not known for sure if Angel is leaving for good or at least for the length of her unknown sentence.

It also has not been confirmed by the show if actress Rebecca is bowing out as Angelica. What we know is that in a few weeks time, Angel will be told how long she must serve in prison or in the facility.

There’s every chance the soap will feature scenes of the teen serving her time away from the village and she will stay away from the show. But often in soap land, when a character has been sentenced like this they do remain offscreen for the bulk of the time.

Viewers will have to wait for the scenes to air next month to find out how long the sentence is and whether the teen is leaving the show temporarily or permanently, or not at all. But judging by the fact the family have been making memories and preparing for goodbye, there is every chance Angelica will have some sort of exit.
