Emmerdale reveals Ethan’s cause of death – and result leaves villager ‘shell-shocked’

Emmerdale villagers will finally find out how Ethan Anderson died next week on the ITV soap, as his cause of death is released.

But the results leave one villager shell-shocked and another reeling, amid one character hiding their guilt. Ethan had been injured in a hit and run days before he collapsed and died at his home.

Only a select few residents know who was responsible for the incident, while it has not been confirmed that this is what killed Ethan. With his grieving dad Charles Anderson desperate for answers, he’s been waiting for the post-mortem convinced his son was killed.

Ruby Miligan has been sneaking around he Andersons, hiding the fact she could be the reason Ethan is dead. Feeling guilty, next week Ruby prepares to hand herself in – but soon some news about Ethan leaves her shell-shocked as Charles reveals the results of the post-mortem.

It’s Ethan’s funeral next week, and Charles is pushing away his partner Manpreet Sharma. He seeks comfort in Ruby, unaware of her link to his son’s demise.

Ruby is riddled with guilt and wants to help the family, reaching for his hand to support him in church. As her relationship with son Nicky falls apart over Ethan’s hit and run, she vows to turn herself in and breaks down.

Nicky comforts her while still sickened by her actions, which was a revenge attack on Ethan who had left Nicky to die in a recent crash. Later, Charles stands over Ethan’s freshly dug grave, struggling to make sense of anything.

Ruby later seeks out Charles, ready to tell him everything as she prepares to hand herself in at the police station. But when she arrives she’s left shell-shocked, as Charles reveals the coroner has established a cause of death for Ethan .

What does it reveal about how and why he died, and what does it mean for Ruby? As Ethan’s funeral gets underway at the church, Charles struggles to lead the service, but how will he react if he finds out about Ruby?
