ITV Emmerdale Ella’s future on the Dales ‘sealed’ as connection to Meena finally explained
Ella Forster has opened up about her past on Emmerdale and what happened between her and Joanne Phillips, as her dark past was finally revealed to the whole village
Ella Forster’s secret on Emmerdale has finally been revealed – and a potential connection to Meena Jutla finally explained.
Many have been convinced that Ella – played by Paula Lane – is somehow connected to Meena Jutla. Fans of the soap will remember Meena, played by Paige Sandhu, who killed several people in the Dales before she was eventually caught and sent to prison.
Some believe Ella met Meena whilst in jail whilst others were sure that Ella and Meena knew each other as children after a photo was found. However, today, Ella’s past – and her connection to Meena – was explained.
As she sat down to speak to Liam Cavanagh about her connection to the Phillips family, she explained: “I did something terrible and I went to prison for a long time. But after many years, these incredibly clever people – these psychology people, prison people – they had meetings about how I was doing and when I should be released.

“I got knocked back twice because of my attitude and they transferred me to the women’s prison and eventually these experts decided that I was no risk to the public, no more than you or anyone else. And when it gets terrible like now, and when it gets out what I did and I have to leave again, I cling to the fact those people put their faith in me and believed in me. They were right. The most violent thing since I was released six years ago was pouring a pint over that guy’s head.”
The rest of the village then found an article about a girl called Ruth Davies, which we now know is Ella’s real name. The article explained that an 11-year-old Ruth carried out a “jealous frenzied attack” on Joanne, who was also 11.
Ella’s explanation of her past now rules out the theory that she shared a cell with Meena, as Meena went to prison in 2022 whilst Ella was let out five years ago in 2019, so there was no chance of them crossing paths whilst doing time.
Her interest in Meena seems to be because she knows Meena killed Liam’s daughter Leanna. Of course, we know Leanna died when she was only young, murdered by Meena after she found out the truth about the killer’s part in her young friend Nadine’s death. It seems that this is why Ella was interested – and had newspaper clips about Meena – because she wanted to find out more about what happened to Liam’s daughter Leanna, given her own past with Joanne.
