It was also revealed this week that the ITV soap would air a special episode on May 7 showing two different perspectives of the same day for two other couples facing difficulties.

The audience will experience a dinner party but in two halves; one from the perspective of Rhona and Marlon from the dinner table and one from the perspective of Belle and Tom from the kitchen.

Both couples are facing troubles in their marriage, with Rhona and Marlon clashing over Rhona’s recent behaviour around custody of baby Ivy and her ex-Gus’s court case.

Meanwhile Tom has been gradually upping his controlling and abusive behaviour towards new wife Belle.

In the special Emmerdale episode, Tom invites his work colleagues Rhona and Paddy to a dinner party at his house the next evening along with their respective partners, Marlon and Mandy, as well as Vanessa and Suzy.

Over an awkward lunch, things become even more tense when Rhona tells Marlon she’s accepted Tom’s invite to dinner the following night.

He’s frustrated to have not been consulted. He agrees to attend, but they’re further apart than ever.

As guests arrive for the dinner party, tensions simmer between Rhona and Marlon.

The lovey-dovey Mandy and Paddy only heighten the awkwardness.

Then, Tom’s toast about marital solidarity exposes the cracks in Rhona and Marlon’s relationship further.

The row between Rhona and Marlon erupts as they lay bare their issues publicly.

Rhona tries leaving, but defiant Marlon rejects it, forcing Rhona to seemingly end their marriage in front of everyone…

Is there any way back for the beloved couple?

Speaking about the scenes, Mark Charnock, who plays Marlon, said: “Given the circumstance there should be no alcohol involved but Rhona and Marlon try to escape themselves by drinking their way through this dinner party.

“The more alcohol they have the more free they get with what they’re saying with each other and the less subtle their mutual resentment becomes until the point where it just explodes.”
