ITV Emmerdale’s Tom King actor teases secret agenda behind Belle abuse amid ‘terrifying’ scenes

Emmerdale’s Tom King could be hiding something huge, including his real reasons for targeting wife Belle Dingle in an abuse plot.

The ITV soap is tackling a coercive control storyline with the characters, and fans have seen Tom isolating and manipulating his partner. With his vile behaviour worsening recently and him having her under surveillance, it’s been revealed that the character will soon turn violent.

New spoilers also tease “terrifying” scenes on the way next week at a dinner party, when we see a glimpse of what Belle faces at home. But while Tom has admitted he is “obsessed” with Belle, and he’s clearly wanting to control her, fans have wondered whether there is more to his actions, and if he has a motive.

Some viewers speculated he wanted revenge against the Dingles over the death of his father Carl King years earlier. Now, it seems there could be more to Tom’s actions against Belle, with actor James Chase teasing he is up to no good.

Hinting that there are “other things” at play in the storyline, James kept quiet on what was going on and what Tom might be hiding. He explained: “As he said in a previous episode he is obsessed with her. There are other things going on too, but I don’t want to reveal too much just yet.”

He went on of Tom getting away with his actions: “No one has any idea. Tom is a master of performance, able to hide his true feelings and convey something very different to get people on his side. Also, Rhona and Marlon’s rising tension only helps to disguise Tom and Belles true situation.”

James added that viewers would “see the dark reality of their relationship come to light”, with Belle actress Eden Taylor-Draper revealing things would escalate. She said: “I think you can expect to see everything escalate throughout the episode.

“You’ll see how easily Tom can switch on and off and how he truly feels and his anger towards Belle. You’ll get a glimpse into Belle’s terrifying reality. He’s so good at turning it on her and I think when that’s being drilled into her constantly, every day for everything, it’s easy for her to believe that she’s the one at fault.”

Eden went on: “There’s a lot going on and Belle’s not actually aware at this point of any of those things happening. So the viewers obviously see what Tom is doing and what Tom’s capable of.

“Belle knows something isn’t quite right but whenever there’s any situation she completely blames herself and he does a great job gaslighting her into feeling that way. I think before this episode, all she wants to do is make him happy and keep the peace and just keep it calm.”
