Viewers had assumed Jai would be becoming a villain once more but tonight he fell victim to the new chaotic evil in the village – Eric himself.

Last night he conned Kerry Wyatt out of her valuable necklace for cash, before stepping in and saving the day by paying for her daughter Amy’s wedding.

But despite having the cash from the necklace sale to fund it, tonight Eric forced Kerry to sign a loan agreement to ensure she would pay him back for the cash that he stole from her.

With no choice, Kerry agreed – but Eric was soon distracted when he discovered grandson Jacob Gallagher had been left devastated by Victoria Sugden dumping him.

Victoria had been strong-armed into it by Jacob’s mum Leyla but Eric didn’t know that and didn’t care – he wanted revenge.

He told her boss Jai about how Jacob had been dumped by Victoria and he wanted her to suffer.

“She seems intent on destroying my family’s happiness so I’d like you to sack her,” he told Jai who told him it was ridiculous to expect him to sack her.

“No, what is ridiculous is helping you with your father and exiling him from this village,” replied Eric.

“And now it’s time to repay that favour quid pro co.”

“I can’t sack Victoria, said Jai. “It’s unfair, that’s why.”

But Eric was having none of it and he made his demands clear.

He told Jai: “Life isn’t fair. Life is tough – cry me a river. There are some people who think they can swan through life leaving a trail of broken hearts behind them but not in this case baby.

“I want her to suffer like my Jacob is suffering. And you will help me or I’ll tell Suni how his father really left this village.”

Eric added: “I’m sure he’d like to find out about your little arrangement and you stealing his inheritance.

“Let me know what to do.”

Eric’s return to villainy has been a long time coming.
