Emmerdale’s Gus downfall ‘sealed’ as fans say he ‘proves guilt’ with subtle clue

Emmerdale's Rhona Goskirk was left horrified during Thursday's (April 11) episode as she faced court against ex Gus Malcolms, with viewers convinced his 'guilt' has been exposed

Emmerdale’s Gus Malcolms’ downfall could be imminent after a court blunder that seemingly “proves guilt”.

Rhona Goskirk found herself in a courtroom nightmare on Thursday night (April 11) as she faced off against Gus. And in intense scenes, things initially seemed to be in Gus’ favour.

Rhona faced extreme allegations over the kidnapping of baby Ivy and accusations about her character from the prosecution, causing an incensed Rhona to lash out at a smirking Gus in the courtroom. The judge soon adjourned for the day, leaving Rhona berating herself for losing control and wondering if her outburst had jeopardised her chances in court, while a self-satisfied Gus revelled in her distress.

After the court drama unfolded, Rhona had a debrief with her squad when Gus swaggered over and quipped: “Well done Rhona! You offended the judge, the jury thinks you’re hysterical and it turns out we didn’t need to get the drug addiction to stick… bring it back tomorrow because you won’t be going home!”

Emmerdale fans took to Twitter, slamming Gus for his courtroom smirks that screamed “guilty as sin”. One viewer tweeted: “Like the jury can’t see Gus smirking in the courtroom,” while another chimed in: “Rhona’s barrister needs to tell the judge about Gus smirking or even announce it to the whole court. See who’ll be smirking then.”

Meanwhile, some eagle-eyed soap buffs were left scratching their heads, tweeting: “I didn’t think Rhona and Gus or anyone who’s facing court together was allowed to talk to each other?” and another pointed out: “The smirky looks there giving each other across the courtroom. Gus is guilty #thatisit.”

Fans will remember that last year, Rhona discovered that her ex-husband Gus and his partner Lucy were expecting a child together. This was despite the couple previously telling Rhona they were struggling with fertility issues and couldn’t conceive, reports The Mirror.

In the past, Rhona and Gus underwent IVF treatment which resulted in some embryos being frozen. However, when they separated, Rhona believed these embryos had been destroyed.

Unbeknownst to her, Gus prevented this from happening. He then went on to ask Rhona if he and Lucy could use the embryos a year ago.

Rhona refused, but Gus went ahead and forged her signature anyway, leading to Lucy becoming pregnant with Rhona’s embryo. Sadly, Lucy passed away during childbirth, leaving baby Ivy motherless and Gus heartbroken.

Initially, Rhona and her family offered support to Gus, but it soon became clear that Rhona couldn’t let go of Ivy and wanted to be part of her life. This sparked a battle between the parents, with Gus planning to run away with the baby.

In response, Rhona took Ivy out of the village, resulting in her arrest for kidnapping. In a bid to avoid legal trouble, Gus proposed a compromise to Rhona – they would both alter their statements so neither would have to face court.

He also promised to halt the move and negotiate with her about access to her daughter. However, Rhona soon discovered his deceit when she realised his plans hadn’t changed at all, leading her to pledge to bring Ivy home.
