Claudette Anderson (Flo Wilson) left Amy Wyatt (Natalia Ann Jamieson) furious and Matty Barton (Ash Palmisciano) devastated in recent Emmerdale scenes, after revealing herself to be both transphobic and homophobic.

Amy and Matty have been planning their wedding for some time now, and wedding planner Suzy Merton (Martelle Edinborough) was feeling really positive about the event.

She explained to the couple that a number of different companies were willing to gift free items in exchange for the promotion they would receive from being involved in a transgender wedding, so all that was left was to find a venue.

The couple were keen to use the community centre for their ‘progressive’ wedding, though Claudette failed to see how not getting married in church made it progressive.

It was then they revealed that Matty was transgender, and Claudette’s attitude changed.

She revealed that the community centre wouldn’t be available after all, and explained that ‘two women can’t get married’.

Suzy was quick to jump in and point out that they can, while Amy explained that Matty wasn’t a woman.

‘Regardless of what you may think or feel, we are what God made us,’ she cruelly said, before leaving the office.

It was clear that what Claudette had said had upset Matty, and Amy later tried her best to comfort him, pointing out that she was ‘an old woman with outdated views of the world’ and that they would show her when they were in the magazines.

It was then that Matty announced that he wasn’t sure he wanted all of the freebies and promotion for their wedding.

He explained that being a ‘trans wedding poster boy’ didn’t sit right with him, and he’d got used living in a ‘safe bubble’ where he ‘didn’t have to face much prejudice day to day’.

He went on to express that he would much prefer for them to have a more lowkey and personal wedding in a registry office.

Amy soon agreed, and they informed Suzy of their decision. Though she was disappointed, she totally understood their decision.

Will Amy and Matty get the happy day they deserve?
