Keisha from the Sugababes sends the UK into a panic with EastEnders axe claim
Sugababes icon Keisha Buchanan has terrified EastEnders fans by claiming that the show will end next year.
Keisha, 40, is about to embark on a UK and European arena tour in 2025, and this weekend appeared on Strictly Come Dancing with bandmates Mutya Buena and Siobhán Donaghy to promote the events.
Sadly, EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick was eliminated from the competition in the same show.
The trio reunited in 2011 and resurrected the Sugababes name five years ago.
Outside of her music endeavours, she’s evidently a big fan of the BBC soap, which is celebrating its 40th Anniversary next year.
Writing on social media platform X, she said: ‘I just heard about Eastenders ending! It’s been around as far back as my memory goes. Whyyyyyy ?!! I’m legit so sad.’
The update sparked fear amongst fans, who were quick to shut her down and assure her that the show isn’t going anywhere. It later transpired that Mutya was the one who began the hoax.
‘Wait was Mutya pulling my leg about Eastenders? Please confirm? She’s not on twitter but if she did, pleaseee help me to get her back! I need ideas asap (nothing too crazy because we have work on Monday Lol) I can not believe she had me in my feelings all evening’ she wrote in the early hours of Saturday.
The group are famed for a number of 00s bops, including Overload and Push The Button.
We know you’re singing along…
The latter tune made soap headlines in recent months when Coronation Street star Emrhys Cooper revealed that he appeared in the music video.
Released as the lead single to their album Taller in More Ways in September 2005, it’s unsurprising that the song reached No. 1 in the UK charts.
The song describes the sexual frustration a woman has for a man being oblivious to her signals, and in the video we see Keisha, Mutya and Heidi Range (who replaced Siobhán) flirting with three blokes in a lift.
One of the fellas was none other than Emrhys, who played Corrie cult leader Rowan Cunliffe.
Now fully assured that her favourite continuing drama is going from strength to strength, Keisha began to plot her revenge on Mutya.
‘I have a plan’ she wrote, with a winking face: ‘Watch this space.’
Fans began to suggest their own ideas on how she could get her own back, whilst one said: ‘Girllll I don’t think BBC will ever end EastEnders. [Especially] not after the amazing run they did with The Six.’
Keisha replied: ‘Phew! Lol’, and honestly, she spoke for us all in saying that.
