“ Our latest Digital Cover goes to @iamdevale and his work on showcasing the multiple layers there are to Black Men by having honest, genuine, and unfiltered conversations!

Devale Ellis has always been about keeping it real, and his reflection on the oversexualization of Black men is no exception. Speaking out about his personal experiences, he offered a powerful reminder of the double standards that too often go unnoticed.

“The oversexualization of Black men gets discarded, as if we all just want that all the time, and that’s not the case,” he shared. This raw truth doesn’t just hit close to home—it’s a wake-up call.
As fans of Zatima know, Zac’s journey reflects these very struggles. Vulnerability, love, and masculinity take center stage as he fights to define himself in a world that misinterprets and limits him. It’s no wonder Devale Ellis breathes life into Zac so effortlessly—the parallels between his real life and his character are striking.

Devale didn’t hold back as he recalled a night out that exposed these biases. When a woman grabbed him inappropriately, the bouncers turned their attention toward him instead of the aggressor. “I asked them, ‘Do you realize she grabbed me first?’” Moments like this reveal the imbalance in how society perceives boundaries and consent for Black men.

For Devale, it’s a call to challenge these perceptions and demand respect for all.
Moments like these remind us why we love Zatima and the layers it peels back. It’s not just a show—it’s a conversation.

Let’s keep talking, keep challenging, and keep showing respect for every layer of Black masculinity.
