EastEnders’ Timothy West’s final TV appearance airs after his death in eerie coincidence
Beloved stage and screen actor Sir Timothy West - who appeared in Coronation Street, EastEnders, Brass and Not Going Out - has sadly died at the age of 90, his family have announced
EastEnders actor Timothy West has made a posthumous appearance on TV just hours after his death was announced.
The late star, 90, will be starring in today’s episode of Doctors where he will play Artie Simkins – the neighbour of a patient who falls in their garden and is forced to call 999.
The episode is the penultimate episode of the daytime BBC drama, ahead of the last-ever episode which will air tomorrow. Production wrapped in March after nearly 25 years on air.
Beloved stage and screen actor Timothy was known for his roles in EastEnders, Coronation Street and other TV shows like Brass and Not Going Out, has passed away at the age of 90.
The heartfelt tribute shared on X, formerly Twitter, read: “After a long and extraordinary life on and off the stage, our darling father Timothy West died peacefully in his sleep yesterday evening. He was 90 years old.
“Tim was with friends and family at the end. He leaves his wife Prunella Scales, to whom he was married for 61 years, a sister, a daughter, two sons, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
All of us will miss him terribly. “After a long and extraordinary life on and off the stage, our darling father Timothy West died peacefully in his sleep yesterday evening. He was 90 years old.
“We would like to thank the incredible NHS staff at St George’s Hospital, Tooting and at Avery Wandsworth for their loving care during his last days.
“West, who began his acting career in 1959, got his big TV break in 1975 with a role in Edward the Seventh. He went on to bag a role in the comedy drama Brass, where he played self-made businessman Bradley Hardacre.
In 1984, he was honoured with a CBE for his contributions to drama. In 2007, he graced the screen as the original Geoffrey Adams in Lee Mack’s BBC comedy, Not Going Out, before being replaced by Geoffrey Whitehead, reports the Daily Star.
Fast forward to 2013, he portrayed Eric Babbage, the wealthy fiancé of Gloria Price, in Coronation Street. The following year saw him making his EastEnders debut as Shirley and Tina Carter’s father, Stan Carter.
Timothy also had an illustrious stage career, regularly performing Shakespeare, including two stints as Macbeth and four as King Lear. As a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, he showcased his talent at prestigious venues like the Old Vic and Piccadilly Theatre.
