Emmerdale’s Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) was led to believe that something happened between Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) and Ross Barton (Michael Parr), but not everything was as it seems.

Ross, as viewers know, staged an almighty comeback to the ITV soap earlier this week, with a big twist confirming that he was Billy Fletcher’s (Jay Kontzle) opponent in the bareknuckle fight.

Mack, who was present during the violent and very much illegal showdown, was horrified to see Moses there watching his father knock seven bells out of Billy and therefore he intervened, removing the child from the warehouse.

Ross subsequently lost the fight and, afterwards, he made a beeline for Jacob’s Fold, using his fists in try and assert control over Mack, who was simply looking out for Moses.

Charity backed up her husband, reiterating that a fight is no place for a child, with Wednesday’s (October 30) edition of the serial drama see Ross return for round two, hoping to explain himself.

A heart-to-heart ensued, with Charity knocked for six as Ross explained that Rebecca had tragically died, with her son Seb being placed in the care of an aunt in Bistrol.

Charity was sympathetic as he explained why the sudden death led him on a downward spiral, though she was quick to offer him some parenting advice, urging him to think twice before taking Moses to an illegal fight once more.

Ross, meanwhile, heard the door of the property swing open and, knowing Mack had entered, he placed a hand on Charity’s shoulder in a bid to wind him up, trying to insinuate that there was a spark between them.

‘Talk about timing!’, said Ross, pretending to wipe his lips. ‘Five minutes earlier and we’d have had some real explaining to do.’

Mack stared at Charity speechless, hoping for an explanation. As we know, nothing happened between her and Ross, but will she be able to convince Mack of such a thing?

Ross, as fans are aware, made it quite clear on Tuesday that he’s planning on ‘throwing a grenade’ into Mack’s happy little life, so this is no doubt the first of many attempts to wind up the farmhand.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 or stream from 7am on ITVX.
