New Year in Albert Square looks set to be a big one, as EastEnders lines up a whole host of its ‘East End icons’ to see in 2025.

Director Christopher McGill has promised some ‘monstrous’ episodes in a social media post from behind the scenes of the BBC soap.

‘Week Two on our monstrous New Year EastEnders episodes,’ he wrote, adding: ‘A room packed (PACKED) with EastEnd icons.’

It is as yet unknown what the storylines will be over the Christmas and New Year period, but it is safe to say that they will be big!

We have already seen pictures of a funeral, which appear to confirm the return of Nancy and Lee Carter (Maddy Hill and Danny Hatchard), but who is in the coffin remains a mystery.

Not to mention, George Knight (Colin Salmon) and Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe) look set to tie the knot at some point surrounding the festive period, and we can’t imagine that will run totally smoothly – not with Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) around, anyway.

As we head into 2025, the 40th anniversary live episode is just around the corner, meaning even more drama to keep us on our toes.

In a first for the soap, EastEnders is giving viewers the chance to choose the outcome of one storyline, with the outcome playing out during the live episode.

In the build-up to the milestone, EastEnders has seen the return of countless iconic characters from years gone by, including David Wicks (Michael French) and Chrissie Watts (Tracy-Ann Oberman).

Ruby Allen (Louisa Lytton) is also set to return in the coming weeks, and with Stacey Slater star Lacey Turner having recently announced her pregnancy, could Ruby be set to drive Stacey out of Albert Square?

We also know that there are exciting storylines ahead for a number of show regulars, including Zack Hudson, after James Farrar spoke to Metro at the Inside Soap Awards.

He teased that, though his next storyline isn’t romance based, it is very exciting.

‘I think that may be the natural progression, however, the next storyline isn’t that! It’s clever, that’s all I’ll say. Nobody knows bar Chris Clenshaw, the press team, my wife and Aaron [Thiara] know!’

There are also big things ahead for Suki Panesar and Eve Unwin, as Balvinder Sopal and Heather Peace told us that they’d just received some very exciting new scripts.

‘There’s some really wonderful stuff that we haven’t ever broached before, and it’s a big deal,’ Balvinder teased. ‘It’s a really big deal, because you’ve got Suki and Eve, from different cultures, different backgrounds, women of a certain age, actually making it – however that pans out later in the future is a different story, but we’re there! We’ve got there!’

Heather added: ‘I’m really excited! This block that we’ve just got… There’s just some really nice conversation, and there’s some really nice moments. There’s a lot of scenes there that I’m excited to do and I’ll be checking the schedule for when we’re doing them, which is great!’

In short, the coming months in Walford look set to be unmissable, and we can’t wait to see what’s ahead!
