Emmerdale star Beth Cordingly reveals one-word response to finding out Cain and Ruby twist
It turns out Emmerdale star Beth Cordingly was just as shocked about the twist in Wednesday’s episode as fans were.
The actress has revealed her one-word response to her soap bosses after being told Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) would cheat on wife Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) with Beth’s character Ruby Fox-Miligan.
Fans saw the brother-and-sister-in-law passionately fall into each other’s arms just as Moira was undergoing surgery to remove a brain tumour.
The unexpected development happened just hours after Cain had vowed to support Moira through her ordeal.
In a video on her Instagram page, Beth shared her disbelief at developments, wondering what will happen when Moira and Cain’s brother and Beth’s husband Caleb Miligan (William Ash) finds out.
‘I know, it’s bad innit? It’s really bad,’ she said.
‘What’s going to happen when Moira finds out? I’m scared! And Caleb. Moira’s probably more scary.’
She continued: ‘When they told me in the storyline meeting that was going to happen, I literally went like this, “Arrrrghhhhhh!”’
Beth captioned the post: ‘Tonight’s episode. I KNOW. #notagoodidea’
Actress Natalie J Robb, who plays Moira, had previously revealed how she’d pleaded with Emmerdale bosses to keep Moira and Cain together.
She told Metro: ‘I think it’s really important that they stay together. I had this chat with [producer] Iain MacLeod, we were talking about marriage and I said ‘Marriages go through things – there’s temptation, there’s things that can happen.’
She continued: ‘It’s worked out to be wonderful, and the longevity of it – I can’t remember how long they’ve been married for now, must be 7, 8 or 9 years – it’s not bad.
‘We’ve threatened divorce once or twice but we didn’t quite get there either!’
Cain cheating on Moira was not the only shock in Wednesday’s episode, however.
Moira’s late daughter Holly Barton made a surprise appearance, as Moira had a vision of her as she was preparing for her surgery.
Actress Sophie Powles reprised her role for the cameo, eight years after Holly died from a drugs overdose.
