Emmerdale’s Ross Barton (Michael Parr) might have the gift of the gab but even he will struggle to talk his way out of the one after the police apprehended him for partaking in illegal fights.

The popular character, who staged quite a comeback last week, has been spending his free time taking part in bareknuckle brawls organised by Jade (Twinnie Lee Moore).

Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) was one of his opponents, which has sparked a little bit of a rivalry between the two but they were ultimately forced to put their differences aside and meet in the ring once more after Jade demanded a rematch.

Jade has proven herself quite the force of nature, making it clear that she will do whatever it takes to ensure the brawls are a success – even threatening the lives of her fighters’ loved ones if they refuse to take part.

Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) got wind of what Billy was up to and ordered him to throw the fight, allowing Ross to win, which would secure their future financially and also aid them in getting out of this mess.

Billy was apprehensive about letting Ross – Dawn’s former flame – pick up the victory and therefore he failed to do as he was told, which backfired dramatically as the police soon intercepted the fight and, while Billy managed to hightail it out of their before being caught, he and Dawn were left seriously out of pocket.

A badly beaten Ross, meanwhile, was seen walking through the country roads, hoping to stay out of the sight of swarming police cars.

Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) approached, with Ross begging him for a lift, but having got wind of what Ross was up to at Butlers, he took great pleasure in declining, driving off just as a police car approached.

PC Swirling stepped out of the vehicle and, knowing he was out of options, Ross simply put out his hands, ready for the copper to snap on the cuffs.

Will Ross face prison time? And how will his loved ones react given that he’s been given various warnings at this stage to keep his nose clean?

Is it curtains for Ross’ time in the village already?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 or stream from 7am on ITVX.
