Exclusive: Emmerdale’s Amelia Spencer makes devastating realisation about Tom in shock twist
Emmerdale's Daisy Campbell reveals what's in store for her character Amelia Spencer as she discovers the truth about her abusive boyfriend Tom King as fireworks are set to fly tonight
The moment has come in Emmerdale for Amelia Spencer to finally open her eyes and see what the viewers have seen for months – that her boyfriend is a true monster.
This Bonfire Night episode, naive Amelia, played by actress Daisy Campbell will see the evil abuser Tom King’s true colours at last. The explosive scenes had been kept tightly under wraps but the soap has given the Mirror a sneak peak at what will be one of the biggest reveals in the Dales this year.
Last week Daisy told The Mirror that she was being axed from the soap after 13 years and will be leaving in a huge Christmas storyline. And tonight we see the beginning of the end as current on-screen romance with evil Tom King, played by James Chase, comes under fire. The domestic abuse storyline involving Tom and his terrorised wife, Belle Dingle, played by Eden Taylor-Draper, has had viewers gripped for months.
Belle – who has suffered physical violence and coercive control found the courage to walk away from the couple’s marriage in September following months of abuse.
Tom quickly moved on to an oblivious Amelia who was bowled over when he told her it was she he was in love with her. Viewers, of course, have continued to see Tom mentally abuse Belle behind Amelia’s back. They also know he is dating Amelia to get revenge on Belle.
But tonight, Amelia, who, alongside his uncle Jimmy, has been his staunch defender, will see a very different side to Tom. As the locals gather around a fire in the village, the Dingles decide to make a ‘bonfire Guy’ that looks like Tom in revenge for everything he has put Belle through. Embarrassed, Tom takes his anger out on Amelia.
Speaking to the Mirror, Daisy reveals: “He gets annoyed with Amelia, and it’s a turning point for her as she starts to realise what Belle is going through. Up until this point, Amelia has been blindsided by Tom. “She has this older man in love with her, and she thinks Belle is lying or making things up to get back at Tom. She thinks Tom is in love with her.
“But when he gets angry with her on bonfire night, she starts to wonder if this is what Belle has been talking about all along. She doesn’t know where to turn but she knows her daughter, Esther, is the only person who matters. Amelia definitely does not want her daughter to see her go through the same thing as Belle.”
Daisy adds: “Could Amelia be the second Belle in terms of Tom’s nastiness? Everyone will have to wait to see how this pans out.” Praising the soap for tackling such a big issue, Daisy, 21, is pleased to play a part in the storyline. “It is great the soap is raising awareness about how women need to be believed,” she adds.
“James, who plays Tom, and Eden, who plays Belle, have been brilliant and it’s been nice for me to get my teeth into such an important story. I feel bad that Amelia doesn’t believe Belle but it’s important to raise awareness about this issue.”
Emmerdale airs Tuesday November 5 on ITV1 7.30pm
