Exclusive: Sad real reason Emmerdale’s Amelia star Daisy Campbell left ITV soap after 13 years
Emmerdale's Amelia Spencer actress Daisy Campbell is leaving the ITV soap after 13 years and it 'wasn't her choice', with her revealing what led to her being written out
Emmerdale’s Amelia Spencer actress Daisy Campbell has revealed the heartbreaking reason bosses decided to call time on her character after 13 years.
The Mirror exclusively revealed the news this week as devastated actress Daisy told us she had learned earlier this year her character would be written out. After some huge storylines on the soap for Amelia over the past decade and more, Amelia will depart the show just before Christmas.
Daisy has grown up on the show so while she “understands” the decision, it hit her hard. She told The Mirror why bosses made the decision, before calling her in to break the news earlier this year.
She gave a sad reason for her looming exit on the show, amid Amelia being caught up in the dark Tom King storyline. While Amelia isn’t likely to be killed off on the show, with Daisy telling us the door has been left open, it will no doubt be sad for viewers when the exit scenes air.
She told us of the decision for her character to leave: “It wasn’t my choice to leave Emmerdale and it was a shock at first. Being in Emmerdale is all I have ever known. I’ve spent the whole of my childhood growing up in the soap and it felt daunting.

“Once they explained, I totally got it. Amelia isn’t part of the Dingles, her dad has left, Samson has gone now and she doesn’t have any family. There is nowhere to take Amelia and I understand that.
“I feel incredibly lucky to have been in the soap for 13 years and to have been handed so many opportunities at such a young age.” Amelia’s father Dan Spencer is currently in prison after accidentally killing someone last year.
Amelia and her young daughter Esther, who she welcomed during a teen pregnancy storyline in 2022, moved in with Chas Dingle after Dan’s departure. Just weeks ago, Esther’s father Samson Dingle left the show after he too was sent to prison.
Similarly to Daisy, Samson actor Sam Hall had been written out of the show. Sam and Daisy grew up together on the soap, both having joined when they were very young.
Daisy joined in 2011 and has remained on the soap for the last 13 years. In that time she’s lost her stepmother, her mother and her relative Rachel, while her dad Dan, biological father Daz and her brother Sean have all left.
