Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) has reported Tommy Moon’s (Sonny Kendall) behaviour to social services in EastEnders.

This week, his adoptive dad Alfie (Shane Richie) returned from Birmingham and discovered Kat (Jessie Wallace) had been in hiding, after sustaining another injury at the hands of their violent son.

After initially lying to cover it up, she came clean and admitted what Tommy had done to her.

A furious Alfie tracked the youngster down to the Boxing Den, and addressed the worrying pattern in his behaviour that needed to be fixed.

Later, the family prepared to host dinner for Freddie (Bobby Brazier) – but an argument soon broke out over a bottle of tomato ketchup. Tommy lashed out, smashing up the living room and pushing his parents over.

He also grabbed a pot of scalding hot soup and poured it over Fred’s arm, resulting in him spending the night in the emergency department.

In tonight’s episode, Kat lay on the sofa amongst the devastation and was reluctant to speak about Tommy to Alfie.

She simply didn’t want to admit how bad his actions were.

Elsewhere, Freddie sat down with the wider Slater clan and explained the events of the previous evening that landed him in hospital. Kat was forced to come clean, but couldn’t help but defend her son.

When asked what his triggers were, she suggested that he’d changed upon learning that his real dad was the abusive Michael Moon.

Jean compared the situation to her own son Sean, who had a history of violence.

Long-term viewers will remember that Sean’s backstory was explored upon his arrival in 2006. It was revealed that as a teenager, he’d discovered his father Brian’s double life.

Filled with rage, he punched his dad which caused a brain haemorrhage – and he later died.

Hoping that some home truths would change his ways, Jean dropped by to speak with Tommy… but things ended badly. She witnessed him attacking younger brother Ernie, and then discovered a number of bruises on his arm.

After speaking with partner Harvey (Ross Boatman) about what she’d found, she picked up the phone and placed an emergency social services call.

Will this help to Tommy on a better path?
