Emmerdale confirms exit story for much-loved character as she sets off to make things right

Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly) broke down in tears in Emmerdale after husband Caleb Miligan (William Ash) made strides to win back her trust, bestowing upon her the greatest gift of all.

Caleb, as fans know, descended to devastatingly brutal lows in a bid to get his hands on the local haulage company, conning Ruby’s estranged dying mum Helen out of thousands of pounds.

But it wasn’t the money that left Ruby broken but rather the fact that he robbed her of a final chance to make things right with Helen, who threw her out decades ago.

Caleb, much like he always does, managed to win Ruby’s forgiveness but he subsequently destroyed his progress when he accused his wife of being the one to backstab him after he lost the haulage yard.

After discovering Will Taylor (Dean Andrews) was the culprit, Caleb came to realise that he yet again had some serious making up to.

Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) offered him some advice on this front, telling the businessman that actions speak louder than words, and therefore he resolved to give Ruby the one thing she wants more than anything in the world, and that’s contact with estranged son Nicky (Lewis Cope).

Nicky, as viewers know, left the village with boyfriend Suni (Brahmdeo Shannon Ramana) after learning of Ruby’s role in knocking down Ethan Anderson (Emile John), coupled with dad Caleb’s decision to help her in covering it up.

Believing his parents to be toxic, Nicky cut all contact and left, with Ruby absolutely devastated by such a thing.

Despite her best efforts, she has been unable to make contact with her beloved son and, in the wake of not getting the chance to make things right with her mum, fixing her relationship with Nicky is all she wants.

With that in mind, Caleb arrived home with a plane ticket, having spoken to Suni, who assisted him in arranging a trip for Ruby to visit Nicky, with the hopes that the mother and son duo can get back on the same page.

‘That’s really quite thoughtful’, said Ruby, having not expected Caleb to go to such lengths to win back her trust. Caleb intends to stay in the village while Ruby goes off on her trip but he encouraged her to do whatever she needs to help herself heal.

Can Ruby make things up with Nicky?

And will Caleb actually learn from his mistakes here and grow as a person? Probably best to not get your hopes up on that last one!

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 or stream from 7am on ITVX.
