EastEnders’ Natalie Cassidy reveals why she hasn’t got married after nine-year engagement
Natalie Cassidy, who is best known for her role as Sonia Fowler on the legendary BBC soap, said she's happy to have "something small", but admitted that she'd like a bit of luxury
Natalie Cassidy has shared the true reason why she hasn’t got married after her nine-year engagement and revealed her wedding must-haves.
In a recent episode of the Memory Lane podcast, the EastEnders legend opened up about her plans for a future wedding to Marc Humphreys after being quizzed on why she wasn’t currently getting married.
Natalie explained that two specific things were stopping her, but although she’s happy to have “something small”, she said she would like her big day with the BBC cameraman to still feature a bit of luxury.
Natalie said: “Do you know what? It’s a lot of money, innit? No, I tell you what it is; it’s time and budget. It is because I go, ‘I’ll only do something small; I don’t need to…’
“I will do it small but I want to be at The Ledbury. Oh, I want a Michelin star meal or I’m just a bit of a snob genuinely.” She added: “I’ll want the best flowers and I will want a designer suit.”
Natalie, who is best known for playing Sonia Fowler on the iconic soap, started dating Marc in 2014 before they announced that they were engaged the following year.
She told OK! in 2023 that they “fancy the pants off each other” and would “love to get married”. She also admitted that she’s “very indecisive”, explaining that she alternates between wanting a large wedding and “somewhere really easy”.
The actress also revealed when she’d ideally like the happy day to occur: “Ten years would be a brilliant time to do it. Either 10 years together or 10 years engaged.”
Natalie has two daughters, Eliza and Joanie, and recently shared that her youngest, Joanie, has now started watching EastEnders, having reached an age where she understands who her celebrity mum is.
Speaking to Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Spinning Plates podcast, she said she’s an “avid fan” of the show, but her daughter also brutally revealed that she’s not keen on her mum’s character.
Natalie said: “She says, ‘Mummy, Sonia is so boring’. I said, ‘Oh that’s really nice’ and she said, ‘No I just don’t like watching you on here’. She said, ‘Honestly I just don’t like it’.”
You can catch Natalie Cassidy on The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice on Channel 4 on Thursday, October 24, from 8pm.
