ITV Emmerdale cast expose chilling ‘haunted’ house on ITV set they refuse to film in
EXCLUSIVE: The beloved ITV soap has been on our screens for 52 years and has become infamous for its iconic set, but the cast is convinced one house is haunted.
Several Emmerdale stars are convinced the famous ITV village is haunted, after witnessing chilling encounters at one character’s house.
There have been many suggestions over the years that the beloved set, located in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, is plagued by supernatural spirits. Cast members have reported everything from sightings of ghosts to suspicious noises on set.
But one common occurrence that many have reported is a spooky presence inside Jai Sharma’s house.
In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk at the Inside Soap Awards 2024, the star-studded cast of the long-running show have shared their own ghostly encounters while working on the show.
Sarah Sugden star Katie Hill, 21, shared her co-star Rosie Bentham’s experience with a ghost in the detached property.
Many believe Jai Sharma’s house is possessed
She told us: “Apparently, Rosie was filming downstairs in Jai’s house and they heard a dragging noise from something along the floorboards.
“So, someone went upstairs to see what it was, and an old wooden wardrobe had been dragged across the room and no one was in there.”
Daisy Campbell – who plays Amelia Spencer on the soap – concurred with her account, adding: “That’s what I’ve heard, but I’ve never witnessed anything.”
She went on to reveal how she learnt about the chilling tale while filming in the spooky property. The soap star, also 21, recalled: “Rosie told me about the whole wardrobe thing when I was filming in the house on that day. And I was like, ‘Thank you. You could’ve waited until we’d finished filming!’”
They aren’t the only stars who have found the creaky old building spooky, as Emmerdale legends Dominic Brunt and Lisa Riley explained some of the superstitions about the property.
The Paddy Kirk star explained: “It’s a real house and you can get up into the attic but it’s never been touched. It is really scary because it’s in the middle of the field, literally in the middle of nowhere so you definitely wouldn’t want to stay over there overnight.
“But I’ve heard so many people have said doors have shut behind them and seen people appearing in windows or moving wardrobes.” Meanwhile, his on-screen wife Lisa explained that many of the crew members won’t visit the property alone.
She confessed: “Some of our dressers, literally, they never want to lay out the costumes by themselves in that house in fear of hearing a door. It’s always that house they mention.”
Many stars refuse to film inside the ITV property
Meanwhile, award-winner Eden Taylor-Draper and her co-star James Chase explained that filming their terrifying storyline was made a lot harder in the chilling house. James explained: “It’s Jai Sharma’s house which is rumoured to be haunted.
“Nobody goes upstairs, nobody likes to film there.” The blonde bombshell explained how grateful she was that they didn’t see anything in the shadows when they filmed in the cellar.
She admitted: “I mean we’ve filmed in the cellar but we didn’t see anything” as James added: “But we didn’t go upstairs just in case, I don’t mess with stuff like that.”
Fans will have to keep a close eye out for any spooky activities happening in the businessman’s house.
Emmerdale airs from Monday to Thursday on ITV1 from 7.30pm or catch up on ITVX.
