Emmerdale’s Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) vowed years ago that she wanted to be able to live life like anyone else and not be defined by her illness, but could that behaviour see her speed up the end?

Sarah has a rare genetic disease called Fanconi Anaemia, which saw her have a bone marrow transplant to save her life when she was very young.

She went on to develop leukaemia and her parents had baby Jack in the hope he’d be a match to help her get better.

Then Sarah developed throat cancer, went into heart failure, and needed a transplant. So, all in all, she has not been a well young lady.

But in 2019 she begged her family to let her live her life and be ‘normal’, so since then, that’s what they’ve done.

It briefly looked like her health issues had returned when everything began kicking off between Mack and Charity, as Sarah feigned heart issues to distract Charity from finding out Mack had fathered a baby with Chloe.

But as that was fake, she hasn’t actually suffered with her health in quite a while.

But more recently, Sarah has started showing renewed risky behaviour.

She defied her family and allowed herself to become close with thug Josh, refusing to believe he was such a bad lad, and defied Mack’s ban on her hanging out with him. Ultimately, she saw the light before doing something stupid.

Her latest actions are now a huge cause for alarm for her family. Charity (Emma Atkins) is furious to discover that she has been drinking while on her medication, which could have huge health implications.

It’s a subtle sign Sarah is becoming reckless again – is this a foreshadowing of another spiral for the young Dingle?
