Emmerdale couple call it quits – and both are utterly distraught
We had high hopes for Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) and Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) when they first started dating in Emmerdale, but unfortunately Chas’ cancer diagnosis and the arrival of Ella Forster (Paula Lane) changed the trajectory of their lives together.
While Chas spent time dealing with her diagnosis and the treatment that came with it, Liam grew close with receptionist Ella, and the pair’s relationship grew more and more serious.
However, when Ella’s childhood secret was exposed, everything changed.
Liam was horrified to discover that Ella had murdered her friend at just 11-years-old, especially after his own daughter, Leanna, was murdered in 2021.
When Ella left the village, having been chased out by the locals, Chas and Liam began to grow close again.
However, when Ella returned and dropped the bombshell that she was pregnant with Liam’s baby, Chas was left devastated.
With Liam reeling from the discovery, Chas paid him a visit in recent scenes and let him rant about the situation.
As Liam revealed that he didn’t want to even look at Ella, Chas pointed out that they would need to have a discussion at some point, given that they were set to be co-parents.
Liam continued to lament, explaining that this has derailed his future plans, before looking pointedly at Chas.
Later, he announced that a baby would put any possible dates on hold for now, and Chas agreed that that was for the best, though it was clear that neither of them were overjoyed by the prospect of putting pause on their relationship.
Despite their romance being stopped before it even truly began, Chas still offered her advice, and supported Liam has he ranted about having to have another baby while still grieving Leanna.
In a vulnerable moment, she opened up about choosing to have daughter Eve after losing Grace – though Liam was quick to point out that that had been her decision, whereas he’d had no choice in this pregnancy.
Will Liam be able to make things work with Ella with Chas’ support?
