Emmerdale spoilers follow.
Emmerdale star Kevin Mathurin has revealed whether his character Charles Anderson’s ruthless side could ever return.
The ITV soap explored the village vicar’s darker last year, including when he threatened Alex Moore in his hospital bed on behalf of Billy and Dawn Fletcher.
An upcoming storyline for Charles will see him make the difficult decision to report his son Ethan to the police, after learning that Ethan fled from the scene of a serious car accident involving Nicky Miligan.
Mathurin has predicted that Charles will face some angry backlash from the other villagers following the incident. Could this be enough to bring his ruthless side back to the surface?
Discussing the possibility of Charles snapping again, Mathurin told Digital Spy and other press: “I think Charles thinks he’s on an even keel, but there’s always going to be something that’s going to push him over the edge.
“I enjoyed playing that darker side, it showed that he’s got a bit of grit behind him and he’s not too much of a walkover.
“I think he has to be pushed right into the corner and once he’s in that corner, forget the Bible, man!”
The actor continued: “I think sometimes whatever past Charles has had, it’s still there and it catches up with him every now and again. He shows that sometimes it’s not about faith.
“It is interesting to play. It’s that knife edge of ‘pull the trigger’ or just letting people know that he’s not really someone to be messed with, to a certain extent.”
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
