Actress Amy Walsh has admitted her least favourite thing about working at Emmerdale during an emotional confession on ITV reality show Drama Queens.
Drama Queens follows the lives of some of the nation’s favourite soap stars, and shows a number of them balancing their work lives with bringing up young families.
Amy, who plays Tracy Shankley in Emmerdale, recently returned to work on the ITV soap after her maternity leave, which meant moving from London to Leeds, where the show is filmed.
With all of her family living in London, Amy revealed that not having them around is the worst part of her job.
During the episode, Amy was joined by sister Sally and her children, who had come to visit while Amy’s husband, former EastEnders star Toby-Alexander Smith, was away filming for a new project.
After watching two-year-old daughter Bonnie play with her cousins, Amy grew emotional, and opened up about how hard it was being away from her family.
‘I absolutely love seeing Bonnie playing with her cousins. This is the thing that always gets me…’ She emotionally revealed.
‘They love each other so much and we’re such a close family, and the hardest thing about being in Leeds and being in Emmerdale is the fact that I’m away from all my family.
‘It really gets me, and it’s such a visceral reaction, because I really hate that she misses out on seeing them as much as she should be.
‘Nothing’s going to change unless I leave my job and move house, which I don’t want to do. It’s just always the thing that gives me a lump in my throat, talking about that.’
Amy returned to Emmerdale in 2023, and has been involved in some dramatic storylines since coming back.
Most recently, Tracy’s affair with Caleb Miligan (William Ash) was exposed, and her whole life came crashing down.
In a previous episode of Drama Queens, Amy revealed how awkward it was to watch the affair scenes with husband Toby.
‘In one episode, I was kissing two different men and me and Toby had literally just come back from our honeymoon’, Amy explained.
‘It was a bit cringe watching it with him, I have to be honest. We had to turn it off. Some days, I’d come back from work and kiss him hello and go, “Oh, I’ve literally just been kissing Jurell. I’ve not even washed my face!”‘.
