ITV Emmerdale double exit ‘sealed’ as viewers spot ‘telling’ sign

Emmerdale has aired Rhona Goskirk and Gus Malcolms' tense court case this week on the ITV soap with the verdict from the jury revealed on Friday night

Emmerdale has aired a tense court case this week with the verdict from the jury revealed on Friday night.

Viewers will recall that last year, Rhona Goskirk found out ex-husband Gus Malcolms and his partner Lucy were expecting a baby together despite them telling Rhona months earlier that they were having fertility issues and could not conceive a child.

Years earlier, Rhona and Gus had IVF treatment which led to them freezing some embryos, but when they split up Rhona assumed they were destroyed. Gus stopped this from happening, before asking if he and Lucy could use them a year ago.

Rhona declined, but Gus forged her signature and Lucy fell pregnant with his and Rhona’s embryo. Tragically Lucy died while giving birth to baby Ivy leaving her partner distraught and grief-stricken, while Rhona was torn that a baby that was biologically hers no longer had a mother.

What started as Rhona and her family helping Gus out led to Rhona admitting she could not let go of Ivy, and wanting to be part of her life. A war forged between the parents as Gus planned to flee with the baby only for Rhona to take Ivy away from the village, with her arrested for kidnap.

As both of them faced trouble with the police, Gus decided to come to a compromise suggesting they both change their statements so that neither of them had to go to court. Gus also claimed he would call off the move and come to an agreement with her over access to her daughter. But Rhona soon realised he was lying and that his plans had not changed at all, resulting in her vowing to get Ivy home with her.

This week has seen Rhona prepare for court as she dreaded facing her kidnap charges. On Thursday, the court trial finally arrived and Gus soon twisted the narrative as a horrified Rhona watched on. However, it wasn’t long until Rhona’s defence fought back when they started to question Gus’ good character.

Later, Rhona’s best friend and co-worker Vanessa Woodfield took the stand, where things started off well before Gus’ defence cross examined the village vet, where she was caught out by the prosecution’s questions. Later, when it was Rhona’s turn to take to the stand, the character faced the prosecution’s accusations about her character to which a fired-up Rhona lost her composure, lashing out at Gus, who kept smirking at her in the court room.

It wasn’t long until the judge adjourned for the day, which left Rhona kicking herself for getting so upset and wondering if it had ruined her chances in court while a smug Gus revelled in her discomfort. However, on Friday night, despite things looking bad for Rhona, she was found not guilty by the jury, leaving the village vet and her loved ones elated. Meanwhile, Gus was furious as he vowed to keep Ivy away from Rhona, who criticised him for being “arrogant” and “cruel”.

As Gus stormed out the court room, a defiant Rhona insisted she would be fighting for custody and she will do whatever it takes to be Ivy’s mother. Taking to Twitter, now X, viewers were left concerned that Gus might flee to France with Ivy, sparking a double exit.

One person said: “Gus is deffo fleeing the country now #Emmerdale”, a different account joked: “Gus you better book that flight to France ASAP!! #Emmerdale”, another wrote: “Sorry Gus-you’re next for your fraud trial so don’t even think about doing a runner to France!” while a different fan added: “Gus didn’t look happy at Rhona getting off!”
