Emmerdale’s Tom King fears being caught out by Cain Dingle

Tom fears repercussions over his staged robbery.

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Tonight’s (April 5) episode of Emmerdale saw Tom King fearful of being caught out by Cain Dingle over his staged robbery plot.

As viewers will know, Tom has been exhibiting increasingly controlling behaviour towards his new wife Belle as the soap explores an issue-based storyline featuring coercive control and domestic violence in relationships.

Last night’s episode saw Tom’s manipulative behaviour take another dark turn after he staged a robbery in their home to punish her for spending time with Vinny Dingle.

Despite Tom’s plan to rattle Belle with the break-in succeeding, he soon found himself fearing being exposed by Cain after he vowed to get to the bottom of the robbery.

Following the break-in Belle was left unable to sleep, worrying about her safety in the house. Uncomfortable with being alone, she pleaded with Tom to accompany him to the police station – an offer he refused.

As Belle struggled to relax at home, Tom tracked her movements from his car while he pretended to be giving a statement at the police station.

He then rang his wife to check-up on her, adding that he’d then head out to all the local pawn shops to recover the ‘stolen’ rings rather than coming home.

Meanwhile, Belle headed over to the Dingles’ in search of company, confiding in Charity and Lydia that she felt responsible for the loss of the two rings, one of which was a family heirloom of Tom’s. “I feel like I’ve let him down,” she said.

After pretending to give a statement to the police, Tom was keen to move on from the incident but faced further interrogation from Cain, who vowed to track down the stolen rings himself.

Later on at the Woolpack, Cain reassured Tom and Belle that he would track down who was responsible for the robbery and recover the rings for them.

“He’s like a dog with a bone when it comes to family,” she said, leaving Tom left worrying about to potential repercussions of crossing the Dingle patriarch.

After Belle excused herself to assist a drunken Moira in the pub’s toilets Tom took his chance and urged Cain to give up on investigating the robbery, insisting that Belle was too “vulnerable” to handle an investigation into the break-in. “It’s just a couple of rings. Belle’s wellbeing, that’s all that really matters,” he insisted.

Cain appeared to back down from his plan to catch the culprits – but will he go back on his promise?

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
