Emmerdale spoilers – Amit Sharma’s murder of Rishi exposed with Eric Pollard set to take him down in dramatic twist
It was a tense episode of Emmerdale on Tuesday (March 26), as Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) decided to have a snoop around Holdgate to try and find evidence against Amit Sharma (Anil Goutam).
The shady businessman recently tried to get Eric to get involved in a scheme involving exporting antiques. Eric was initially excited to be dipping his toe back into the world of high-end antiques dealing.
Since his Parkinson’s diagnosis he’s become frustrated at how people tend to wrap him in cotton wool and view him as being old and past his prime. This gave him something to really get his teeth into.
It soon became clear, however, that the Parkinson’s diagnosis and the fact that Eric has a bit of money behind him had made Amit think he was an easy target. Amit’s increasingly threatening manner when Pollard refused to transfer money to him made the Emmerdale stalwart suspicious.
Soon he discovered that Amit was seriously in debt and had been trying to exploit Eric for cash.
Sharing his findings with Vinny (Bradley Johnson) and Rodney (Patrick Mower), the three decided that they needed some evidence against Amit. In this episode Vinny managed to get Amit’s house keys off him and kept him talking as Eric went to Holdgate to see if he could find any records of what Amit might have been up to.
Vinny is not great at being deceptive and it wasn’t long before Amit realised that the younger man was just trying to keep him talking – and he also realised his keys were missing. He set off for Holdgate, with Vinny frantically trying to contact Eric.
Back at the house Eric eventually answered his phone, but it was too late – Amit was already home. But, luckily for Eric, so was Jai (Chris Bisson). This meant Eric narrowly avoided a similar fate to the late Rishi (Bhasker Patel), who we now know was deliberately pushed down the stairs by Amit.
Eric tried to explain to Jai that his father is a con man who is in massive amounts of debt. Jai wouldn’t believe this. After all, he reasoned, Amit had only recently bought into the Hide so he could work alongside Jai.
Eric tried to argue that he’d met people who operated in that way throughout his life, but when Amit asked for his keys back and Eric had to hand them over, Jai was convinced that Eric was feeling unwell and was ‘overwhelmed.’
After Eric left, Jai told Amit that it was sad because the Eric he knows is ‘Sharp and cunning and clever,’ whereas now he clearly wasn’t well.
Amit couldn’t resist gloating when he saw Eric with Vinny later, issuing a veiled threat: ‘You look after yourself. Poor old addled Eric.’
The thing is, Eric really is still sharp and cunning and clever and the way Amit had reacted on finding him at Holdgate had made him realise something terrible – that Amit could have killed Rishi, and most likely had.
‘I can’t stop thinking about the person who lived in the house before, fond at the bottom of the stairs dead,’ he told Vinny.
Vinny was shocked. Surely he didn’t believe Amit had killed Rishi? ‘After what I’ve seen today I know that he’s capable of it,’ Eric concluded.
Now all he has to do is find the proof.
