Emmerdale spoilers: Wedding agony for Matty Barton and Amy Wyatt as Claudette’s transphobia shatters their plans
After one heck of a long engagement in Soapland terms, Amy Wyatt (Natalie Ann Jamieson) and Matty Barton (Ash Palmisciano) are finally gearing up for their big Emmerdale wedding day. But their grand plans are twarted by an unexpected transphobic bigot.
As Amy and Matty recently set their wedding date as April 17th, Matty foolishly quipped ‘and nothing is going to stop us’. Enter Sod’s Law in the form of Claudette (Flo Wilson), who is very definitely going to stop them.
The couple have got to the next stage of picking their venue and they are absolutely thrilled.
They have settled on the Village Hall – keeping things local after Amy’s heartfelt re-proposal in the Woolpack.
But as their excitement peaks, Claudette swoops in and destroys their hopes of using the community centre.
She learns that Matty is trans and is disgusted, influenced by her misguided beliefs. She tells the couple that they are prohibited from marrying in the church-affiliated space.
Matty has been through and coped with a lot, but this he is not expecting and he’s floored by her heinous reaction.
Suzy (Martelle Edinborough) is on the case though, and immediately sets about finding a new venue.
But the damage is done for poor Matty. He later confesses to Amy that he wants to experience his wedding day as himself and not as other peoples’ trans role model, reneging on their plan for a big do.
Amy wants to be supportive but is secretly gutted. Has Claudette ruined the magic of their big day?
