Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) shocked Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) when she revealed her decision to have a double mastectomy in Emmerdale.

While he was knocked for six, ultimately, he made the surprise choice to go down the supportive route. He even decided to get himself tested for the faulty gene to put Chas’ mind at rest.

After her shock diagnosis, all that has been on Chas’ mind is ensuring that she would be around to see Eve grow up.

Afraid of what the future held, she whisked her daughter away for a long trip to make some memories in case the worst happened, but it only cemented her drive to survive this disease and her decision to go under the knife to get ahead of the Big C.

Chas is about to face her huge decision as the day of the surgery is just around the corner.

As it inches closer, Aaron starts to worry as he realises Chas has only booked herself two weeks off for recovery time. It’s a major operation and it smacks of her avoiding the reality of her situation. As things play out, it seems he is not wrong.

After a heart to heart with Paddy (Dominic Brunt), things become clearer – Chas shares her fears. Paddy is there for her, but in ways she hasn’t planned for. As she unburdens herself of her concerns and enjoys the warm familiarity of offloading to Paddy, they kiss.

Paddy is instantly and outwardly regretful, and makes Chas feel about an inch tall by his hurtful and insensitive reaction. Owning his mistake, Paddy confesses to Mandy, who reacts in a very uncharacteristic way.

The day arrives and Chas plasters on her smile as she’s gowned up for surgery, but once alone her real feelings shine through.

Aaron and Cain (Jeff Hordley) are in for a tense wait as they hang about for updates of her condition and they find it a bit of a bonding exercise.

Chas later comes round, and it’s a new world she’s waking up to. The heavy reality of what she’s just been through finally dawns on her. Has she done the right thing?
