Emmerdale star Emma Atkins is popularly known for her portrayal of Charity Dingle. The actress recently teased emotional scenes for her character alongside local doctor Liam Cavanaugh. Viewers know that Charity has been dealing with a lot since she accidentally shot Damon ‘Harry’ Harris during the holiday season.
Even though Charity didn’t face any legal consequences, it has been taking a toll on her mental health. In the upcoming episodes of Emmerdale, she even ends up severely injuring her husband, Mackenzie Boyd. Emma expressed, “It’s hellish knowing she can’t put this right.” She added that Charity’s mind and body are unable to erase the trauma.
According to the Emmerdale actress, she can’t relate to her character’s experience, but she can fully appreciate that her PTSD is completely overwhelming. She continued that it traps you as you are unable to rewind time or escape these powerful physical triggers. The soap star quoted, “Charity is plagued with guilt, and she has no idea what to do.”
Atkins explained that in the coming episodes of Emmerdale, Dr Liam Cavanaugh attempts to offer help to Charity. However, her character feels nothing can ‘fix her.’ She shared, “She’s gone into complete hibernation from the world, and she thinks if she just buries her head, it can just go away, but the more she tries to sleep, the worse it becomes.”
