Phillip Schofield ‘edited out’ of classic Emmerdale episode after This Morning exit

Phillip Schofield's cameo in ITV soap Emmerdale has seemingly been edited out after he quit his role on This Morning after admitting to an 'unwise but not illegal affair' with a younger male colleague

Phillip Schofield has seemingly been cut from an episode of Emmerdale following his This Morning exit.

The former This Morning presenter had a cameo alongside Fern Britton on the ITV soap back in 2005, where they interviewed the character Alan Turner, played by Richard Thorp. As part of their role, they interviewed Alan over his missing partner, Shelley Williams – who was played by Carolyn Pickles – but fans noticed Phillip was seemingly missing from the episode when it re-aired.

One person noticed and took to Twitter to share: “Erm did Phillip Schofield just get cut out of #ClassicEmmerdale? I wondered how they’d get round having #philipschofield on. But I’m really impressed with the clever editing.”

Back in May 2023, Phillip stepped down from his hosting role on This Morning. He said in a statement at the time to announce his departure from the ITV mid-morning show: “I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning.

“But recently, This Morning itself has become the story. Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind. I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love. So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially This Morning’s amazing viewers – and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month.”

He was expected to host the British Soap Awards in June 2023 but he pulled out and was replaced by Jane Macdonald after he admitted to an “unwise but not illegal affair” with a younger male colleague.

Since then, Holly Willoughby has also quit This Morning and Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley have been announced as their replacements. Of joining the show, Ben said: “This really feels like a very special moment for Cat and I to be part of the next chapter of This Morning. It’s an honour to be trusted with the reigns, join Alison and Dermot and all the team that work on and off screen and do such a great job. For the last ten years, I’ve been waking up with our ITV daytime audience on GMB and I now look forward to spending time with Cat, welcoming the viewers home after the school run or from their early morning routines, with a cup of tea and a mix of everything that makes This Morning so loved.”

Cat added: “This Morning is a national institution. Whenever it’s on, it’s like having your friends over – funny, smart, silly, heartfelt, informative and joyful – like all the greatest friendships! This Morning is and always will be the viewer’s show. Ben and I both know how much people love it, and with the help of an amazing team of people, we’re going to do our best to take care of it.”
